White Gold Lab Grown Diamond Rings

White gold is rhodium-plated to give it its bright finish, so it looks nearly identical to platinum when new and warms in color as the plating wears.

Buying Guide

White gold is the most-chosen metal in the range and the one with the one genuine maintenance requirement. The alloy underneath the rhodium is warm, not grey, which is why an unplated white gold ring reads faintly yellow. The plating is what makes it white, and daily contact wears it, so the piece gradually changes color rather than staying fixed.

Re-plating is a routine workshop service, available through us as a paid service rather than included, and how often it is needed depends entirely on wear — which is why we will not quote an interval. Against platinum, the saving is real at purchase and is spent again over the life of the piece. For earrings we think white gold is the sensible saving; for a ring worn every day we would put the difference into platinum. Every stone is IGI-certified in D–F colour, VVS–VS clarity and Excellent cut.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does white gold need maintenance?

Yes. White gold is plated with rhodium to give it its bright white finish, and that plating wears with daily contact, so the piece gradually warms in color. Re-plating is a routine workshop service and is available through us as a paid service. Yellow gold, rose gold and platinum need no plating at all.

How often does white gold need re-plating?

It depends entirely on wear, which is why we will not quote a fixed interval. A ring worn daily on a working hand will warm in color sooner than a piece worn occasionally. Re-plating is a routine service available through our workshop as a paid service. If you would rather never think about it, platinum is the alternative.

Is white gold or platinum better value?

White gold costs less up front and platinum costs less to keep. White gold is the lighter, less expensive metal at purchase; platinum needs no plating and holds prongs more securely over decades. Both are offered across 458 designs each. For a ring worn every day we recommend platinum, and for earrings white gold is the sensible saving.

Platinum or white gold — which should I choose?

They look nearly identical when new, so the decision is about wear. Platinum is denser, holds prongs more securely, patinas to a soft finish instead of wearing away, and is hypoallergenic. White gold is lighter and less expensive, but it is rhodium-plated and the plating warms in color over time. We recommend platinum for a ring worn every day.

Which gold purity should I choose for a ring worn daily?

14k is the practical default in the U.S. and the one we recommend for daily wear. At 58.3% gold it holds color well while keeping enough alloy for hardness, which matters on a ring that meets desks, door handles and car keys every day. 18k is a reasonable choice if you prefer the deeper color.
