What Are Lab Grown Diamonds?
Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds created in controlled laboratory environments using advanced technological processes that replicate the conditions under which diamonds naturally form. They have the same crystal structure, chemical composition (pure carbon), and physical properties as diamonds formed deep within the Earth over billions of years.
Identical to Mined Diamonds
Lab-grown diamonds are not imitations or simulants. They are composed of crystallized carbon atoms arranged in the same diamond cubic crystal structure as natural diamonds. This means they share the same hardness (10 on the Mohs scale), refractive index, thermal conductivity, and optical dispersion.
To the naked eye and even to most gemological tests, a lab-grown diamond and a mined diamond are indistinguishable. Specialized equipment is required to detect the subtle differences in growth patterns that identify a diamond's origin.
Certified & Graded
Lab-grown diamonds are certified and graded using the same standards as mined diamonds. Independent gemological laboratories like IGI (International Gemological Institute) evaluate lab-grown diamonds based on the 4Cs: Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat weight.
Each certified diamond comes with a detailed grading report that documents its specifications, providing transparency and assurance of quality. Many lab-grown diamonds also feature laser-inscribed identification numbers on their girdle for verification.
