Michael Gabriels Alternatives — And Is Michael Gabriels Legit?

The things that make a jeweller checkable

A business you can verify publishes an address you can stand in front of, hours somebody keeps, and terms you can hold them to. Michael Gabriels does all three: a New York store at 46 Howard Street in SoHo open Monday to Thursday and Friday mornings, a Florida location at Bay Harbour Island by appointment, and an accessibility statement that says walk-ins are always welcome. Their showroom page describes a concierge who will teach you the 4Cs and show you designs, and offers to custom-design if nothing on the floor fits.

Two smaller details point the same way: production is genuinely made to order, and they publish a lead time of roughly two weeks. That is a company describing its own process rather than reselling from stock.

Bottom line: nothing we read raises a flag. The trust queries around this brand exist because coverage is thin, not because problems are documented.

The gap: nobody is told which laboratory graded the stone

We read a live one-carat solitaire listing end to end and their diamond education pages alongside it. No grading laboratory is named for their own diamonds anywhere — not IGI, not GIA, not GCAL. Their education page discusses certification only in the abstract, urging buyers never to purchase a diamond of one carat or more without a report from an accredited institute, without saying which institute issues theirs.

A report clearly does travel with the piece, because their returns policy charges a replacement fee per certificate if the paperwork does not come back. So the document exists — it is the issuing house that is undisclosed. That is worth an email before you order, because the laboratory is what makes a grade comparable between two sellers.

For contrast, every Beyond Carat diamond is graded by IGI, the International Gemological Institute, and the report ships in the box at every carat size. We are IGI-only, which is itself a limitation if you specifically wanted GIA — Liori Diamonds is the name on this page that can do that.

Bottom line: same quality band on paper, different amounts of paper. Ask which laboratory, and get the answer in writing.

Warranty and returns: read the hedges

Their warranty is one year, and their own wording is that most of their products carry it. That hedge is worth noticing on a purchase you expect to wear daily for decades. Beyond Carat holds a lifetime manufacturing warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship, with no annual inspection requirement and no expiry.

On returns the two brands are close: 30 days, free label, no restocking fee stated on their side. The wrinkle is that their FAQ and their refund policy disagree about whether the clock starts when the ring is delivered or when it ships, and custom, engraved, resized, modified and previously exchanged pieces are excluded outright. Ours runs from the ship date, once, everywhere, with a free prepaid insured UPS label on U.S. orders.

Bottom line: a twelve-month warranty on most products is the clearest daylight between these two brands, and it is quoted from their own FAQ.

Shipping, and what is not said

Their free shipping starts above a $300 order and covers the United States and Canada only, using FedEx Two-Day or Overnight. Insurance and signature-on-delivery are not mentioned anywhere on their FAQ or refund policy, so we will not claim they are absent — only that they are not published. Beyond Carat ships free worldwide with no minimum; inside the U.S. that means free UPS 2nd Day Air, fully insured, signature required.

Bottom line: if you are ordering from outside North America, this brand is not an option and we are.

How many reviews do they have? Three answers

A banner on their own site claims more than 450 reviews at five stars. An unclaimed Birdeye aggregate shows 5.0 from 720. Their Yelp listing showed 11. Those cannot all describe the same thing, and none of them is audited, so we quote all three or none rather than picking the flattering one.

We hold ourselves to the same rule. Beyond Carat has 4.8 out of 5 on Trustpilot across 43 reviews — Trustpilot’s own band for that is “Excellent”, and as of August 2026, every one of our 43 Trustpilot reviews is 4 or 5 stars. Forty-three is a small base and we are not going to pretend otherwise; Trustpilot’s own transparency label on our profile reads “Asks customers to review — invites their customers to review, whether positive or negative”, which is the only honest answer we have to the obvious objection.

Bottom line: neither brand can win this on volume. Read the review platform, not the badge.
