Jewelry care guide

Made to last. Here’s how to keep it brilliant.

A few easy habits keep your piece looking the way it did on day one.

The everyday basics.

  1. Clean gently.

Warm water, a drop of mild soap and a soft brush. No harsh chemicals, ever.

  2. Store it separately.

Keep it in your Beyond Carat box when you’re not wearing it. Diamonds can scratch other pieces.

  3. Avoid chemicals.

Take it off before swimming, and put it on after perfume and lotion. Chemicals dull the shine over time.

  4. Get it checked yearly.

A quick look at the prongs and settings catches small problems before they become lost stones.

Wearing it every day.

Do

  • Put it on last, after lotion, hairspray and perfume.
  • Take it off for the gym, gardening, cleaning and heavy lifting.
  • Hold rings by the band, not the stone.
  • Give it a quick clean every couple of weeks.

Don’t

  • Wear it in pools, hot tubs or the sea. Chlorine and salt are hard on metal.
  • Use bleach, ammonia or household cleaners on it.
  • Scrub with toothpaste or baking soda. They scratch metal.
  • Toss it loose in a bag or drawer with other jewelry.

Cleaning it at home.

  1. Soak.

Mix warm water with a few drops of mild dish soap. Let your piece soak for 15 to 20 minutes.

  2. Brush.

Use a soft toothbrush. Get behind the diamond too, where lotion and dust build up and hide the sparkle.

  3. Rinse and dry.

Rinse in warm water over a bowl, not an open drain. Pat dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.

Storing it safely.

  • Give each piece its own spot: your Beyond Carat box or a soft-lined compartment.
  • Fasten necklaces and bracelets before you put them away so they don’t tangle.
  • Taking it off at the sink or the gym? Put it straight into a pocket or pouch, never on the edge of a counter.
  • Traveling? Pack it in a small padded case in your carry-on.

Care by piece.

Rings

Watch the prongs.

Prongs hold your diamond and wear down slowly with everyday use. If a ring starts catching on sweaters, or the stone moves or looks tilted, stop wearing it and contact us.

Earrings

Check the backs.

Make sure backs click on firmly every time you wear them. Clean the posts and backs too, and take earrings off before you sleep.

Tennis bracelets & necklaces

Test the clasp.

Close the clasp and safety latch fully each time and give it a gentle tug. Now and then, look along the line for any stone that sits loose or out of place.

When to bring it to us

Something feels off? Stop wearing it.

  • A stone moves, rattles or looks tilted.
  • Prongs catch on fabric or look bent.
  • A clasp or earring back doesn’t close firmly.
  • White gold has started to look yellowish.

Every piece has our lifetime manufacturing warranty, covering defects in materials and workmanship. For everyday wear, our U.S. facility offers professional cleaning, prong tightening, re-polishing and rhodium re-plating. Repairs by other jewelers void the warranty, so please come to us first.
