Buying Guide
The solitaire is the default for a reason that has nothing to do with fashion: it pairs flush with almost any wedding band, there is no accent work to keep clean, and nothing competes with the centre stone. That last point cuts both ways. A solitaire shows the stone honestly, so the grade is doing visible work here in a way it is not in a busier setting — which is why our D–F colour and VVS–VS clarity floor matters most on this page.
Two details are worth deciding before you order. Prong count: four prongs show more of the stone, six hold it more securely and spread impact across more points, and above a carat we would take the six. Band width: a narrower band makes the centre read larger by contrast, a wider band is more comfortable and more durable. Everything here is made to order with free worldwide shipping and 65-day returns.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a solitaire and why is it the most common setting?
A solitaire is a single centre stone on a plain band. It is the most common setting because it does three things at once: it gives the diamond the most light, it pairs flush with almost any wedding band, and it puts the entire budget into one stone rather than splitting it. We carry 570 solitaire designs across the range designs.
How many prongs should a solitaire have?
Four prongs show more of the stone; six hold it more securely and spread impact across more points. For a stone worn daily, particularly above one carat, we recommend six. Four is a legitimate choice on a smaller stone or where you want the outline as clean as possible.
What band width works best with a solitaire?
It depends on the stone, not on fashion. A narrow band makes a centre stone read larger by contrast, which is why most of our 570 solitaires use one. A wider band is more comfortable and more durable, and it suits a larger centre where the contrast is not needed. We would choose comfort once the stone is above two carats.
Does the shape change the price of a lab grown diamond?
Yes. Round costs the most per carat because cutting it wastes the most rough material. Step cuts such as emerald and asscher, and elongated brilliants such as marquise, generally cost less at the same weight. Across our range the same budget will usually buy noticeably more carat weight in an emerald cut than in a round.
What diamond quality do you stock?
D, E or F colour; VVS or VS clarity; Excellent cut. That is the floor across the whole range, not an upgrade tier — the entry-level ring and the largest centre stone are graded to the same standard. Every stone is IGI-certified and the report ships with the piece.
