Head to Head

Beyond Carat vs Rare Carat

One of us is a search problem and one of us is a shortlist. We wrote this page knowing you will read it sceptically, which is the correct way to read it.

Rare Carat beats us on inventory, on price and on review base, and it offers GIA where we cannot. Choose it for maximum choice or the lowest cost. Choose Beyond Carat if you want a finished ring inside a fixed D-to-F, VVS-to-VS, Excellent-cut band with the IGI report already in the box.

Rare Carat figures are quoted from its own published pages, checked August 2026. Its stone counter is live and moves daily, and its own pages give differing review totals, so this page prints ranges rather than false precision. There is no affiliate arrangement between the two companies. Something wrong here? Tell us and we will correct it.

Read This Before the Rest

Rare Carat wins outright on three things and we are not going to argue with any of them. Inventory: over 1.5 million graded lab-grown stones against our few thousand finished pieces, which is not a gap you close with better copy. Price at the bottom: complete 1-carat rings from $940, reaching into a D-to-K colour range that we deliberately do not sell. And trust-by-volume: several thousand reviews by its own account, plus a BBB profile that is accredited, A-plus rated and carries five complaints in three years. It also offers GIA and GCAL as well as IGI, so a shopper who has decided they want a GIA report simply cannot buy from us. Its free resize runs a year against our thirty days. If any of those five is your deciding factor, stop reading and go there.

What we are actually for. A million stones is a wonderful thing if you enjoy diamonds and a burden if you just want a ring. Our whole model is the pre-commitment: the catalogue admits nothing under F on colour, under VS on clarity, or under an Excellent cut, which leaves no wrong stone in the range and no certificate you have to learn to read. Every piece is graded by IGI before it ships and the report is in the box with the number laser-inscribed on the girdle. Everything is made to order in our own NYC Diamond District workshop, offering Regular, Express and — where the piece allows — Next-Day build speeds. And outbound shipping is free to any country, while Rare Carat stops at Canada.

Two claims we will not make, because they would not survive checking. We are not cheaper: the only in-band Rare Carat listing we could find at matching grades sat in a fancier setting than our entry solitaire, so no valid like-for-like comparison exists and we will not invent one. And we will not tell you Rare Carat is a middleman with somebody else on the hook. Since 2021 the seller has been Rare Carat itself: it collects the money, and both the return and the warranty are its own to honour. On returns the two of us are at parity: a 30-day window from despatch, a prepaid label and nothing held back as restocking, on both sides.

Who Each One Is Built For

Rare Carat is best for you if…

  • You want to compare hundreds of individual stones at one specification
  • You need the lowest possible complete-ring price
  • You want a GIA or GCAL report rather than an IGI one
  • An unusual carat, colour or clarity combination is on your list
  • A year of free resizing matters more to you than a month
  • You judge an unfamiliar retailer by the size of its review base

Beyond Carat is best for you if…

  • You would rather choose a ring than assess a stone
  • You want a declared colour, clarity and cut standard rather than filters you set yourself
  • You want the IGI report to arrive in the box rather than be requested
  • You are shipping somewhere Rare Carat does not go
  • You need a faster build and can use Express or Next-Day production
  • You would rather talk to a person for half an hour than read certificates for a week

What Neither Marketing Page Tells You

The review-base question, answered honestly. Ours is 43 reviews as of August 2026. That is a small number and no amount of framing changes it. What we can say about it is specific: the rating is 4.8, Trustpilot places it in its "Excellent" band, and as of August 2026, every one of our 43 Trustpilot reviews is 4 or 5 stars. Trustpilot also carries its own transparency label on our profile, reading "Asks customers to review — invites their customers to review, whether positive or negative", which is a third party saying we do not only ask the happy ones. All of that is true and none of it is a substitute for volume. If review count is your safety net, Rare Carat has one and we do not.

The delivery question. Rare Carat quotes roughly two to three weeks for a handcrafted setting and a two-to-five business day transit window on the product schema of a live listing. We make to order too, so neither of us is pulling a finished ring off a shelf. The difference is at the edges: our Express and Next-Day production options exist for a deadline, and our free outbound shipping has no geographic limit.

The grading question. Rare Carat lets you filter by laboratory, which is genuinely useful and is a form of control we do not offer. We are IGI only. If you want to understand what actually separates the two laboratories rather than take either company’s word for it, we wrote that comparison up separately and it does not conclude that IGI is universally better.

Frequently Asked Questions

Rare Carat if you want maximum choice, the lowest price or a GIA report. Beyond Carat if you want a finished ring inside a fixed D-to-F, VVS-to-VS, Excellent-cut band with the IGI report in the box and no stone-shopping to do. They are built for two different shoppers rather than being better and worse versions of one thing.

Rare Carat, at the bottom of the range. Its finished one-carat lab-grown rings open at $940 and its colour ladder reaches K; our entry is around $1,049 and our range stops at F. We have not found a valid like-for-like comparison at matching grades and plain settings, so we make no claim to be cheaper.

It sells it. Rare Carat says it is the selling party on every order, that the purchase is from Rare Carat and not from any outside vendor, and that despatch, returns, warranty and support are all handled by its own staff. Its inventory is sourced from vetted wholesalers, but the company you are dealing with is Rare Carat.

They are close to identical: both give 30 days from shipment and both provide a prepaid label with no restocking fee. That is parity, not an advantage for either side. The real difference is resizing, where Rare Carat gives you a year and we give you 30 days from shipping.

Yes. Outbound shipping is free worldwide with no minimum order. Rare Carat ships to the fifty US states and Canada only. One limit to be clear about: our free prepaid insured return label covers US orders, so an international return means arranging the shipment yourself.

Three things. It fixes the grade band so every stone in the catalogue is D-to-F colour, VVS-to-VS clarity, Excellent cut. It ships free worldwide rather than to two countries. And it makes each piece to order in its own Diamond District workshop offering Regular, Express and — where the piece allows — Next-Day build speeds.
