Buying Guide
Princess is the second-largest shape in our range and the one that reads most architectural. The faceting underneath the flat square table is brilliant rather than step, so it sparkles like a round while keeping sharp modern lines — which is the combination people are usually after when they arrive at this shape. It also sits flush against a straight wedding band, making it one of only two outlines that removes the contour question.
The four corners are the exposed part, not the stone. Diamond is a 10 on the Mohs scale everywhere, but a sharp corner concentrates impact, so we set every princess with a protective prong covering each corner as standard. Cutting a square from a rough crystal wastes far less than cutting a circle, and that efficiency is the reason a princess costs less per carat than a round of equal weight. Everything here is IGI-certified in D–F colour, VVS–VS clarity and Excellent cut, made to order.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why choose a princess cut over a round?
Two reasons: spread and price. A princess is a square brilliant, so it shows more surface area per carat than a round and costs less at the same weight, because a square uses the rough crystal more efficiently. It also reads more architectural. We carry 204 princess pieces across the range, our second-largest shape after round.
Do princess cut diamonds chip easily?
The corners are the exposed point, not the stone. A princess cut has four sharp corners where a round has none, and a corner concentrates impact. The standard solution is a V-prong or a chevron prong covering each corner, which is how we set them. Protected that way, a princess is no more fragile in daily wear.
Does the diamond shape affect which wedding band fits?
Yes, more than most people expect. Round and princess solitaires usually sit flush against a straight band. Pear, marquise and low-set ovals often need a contoured or notched band to sit without a gap. We recommend deciding the ring first and matching the band to it, and our team can advise on contour before you order.
Does the shape change the price of a lab grown diamond?
Yes. Round costs the most per carat because cutting it wastes the most rough material. Step cuts such as emerald and asscher, and elongated brilliants such as marquise, generally cost less at the same weight. Across our range the same budget will usually buy noticeably more carat weight in an emerald cut than in a round.
Which setting protects the diamond best?
A bezel, which wraps metal around the girdle of the stone, protects best. Among prong settings, six prongs hold more securely than four, and a lower profile keeps the stone out of the way of impact. We set pear and marquise points under a V-prong as standard for the same reason.
