Buying Guide
Past, present and future is the usual reading — the same style is sold as a trilogy ring outside the U.S. — and it is why three stone sells as often for an anniversary as for a proposal. The arithmetic is the other reason. Diamond price per carat rises steeply with size, so two one-third-carat flanking stones cost considerably less than adding two-thirds of a carat to the centre, while adding more visible diamond across the finger.
The design decision is whether the side stones match the centre shape. Tapered baguettes or trillions beside a round or an oval give the ring direction; matching shapes give it symmetry. Both are defensible, and the thing that matters more than either is proportion — side stones well under half the centre weight each keep the ring reading as a three stone rather than as a row. Every stone is IGI-certified in D–F colour, VVS–VS clarity and Excellent cut, made to order with free worldwide shipping and 65-day returns.
Frequently Asked Questions
Three stone or side stone — what is the difference?
Three stone uses two substantial stones flanking the centre, usually chosen to carry meaning, and reads as three distinct diamonds. Side stone uses smaller accents along the shoulders that add sparkle without competing with the centre. We carry 120 three stone designs across the range and 273 side stone designs across the range, and side stone is the less expensive route to added brilliance.
When should I take my ring off?
For anything involving impact, grit or chemicals: the gym, gardening, swimming pools and cleaning. Diamond is a 10 on the Mohs scale, but the metal holding it is not, and most loose-stone problems trace back to a knocked prong. Our lifetime warranty covers manufacturing defects; everyday wear is not covered.
Should the side stones match the centre shape?
Not necessarily, and some of the best three stone rings do not. Tapered baguettes or trillions beside a round or oval centre give the ring direction; matching shapes give it symmetry. What matters more is that the side stones are proportionate — usually well under half the centre weight each.
Where should I spend the money for the biggest visible difference?
Cut first, then carat. A well-cut stone at a modest grade outperforms a poorly cut stone at a high one, every time, because cut is what converts light into brilliance. We hold Excellent cut across the range, so on our pages the next most visible spend is carat weight, then shape.
