A pear spreads its weight lengthwise, so it covers more finger per carat than any rounded outline, and because the shape uses the rough crystal efficiently it costs less per carat than a round of the same weight. Both effects push in the same direction when the budget is fixed.
There is one decision we have already made on your behalf. A protective V-prong caps the taper on every design in this band, so buying at the lower end of the range changes nothing about how the stone is held. Which way should a pear shaped diamond point?
Point toward the fingernail. That is the convention and it is also the flattering one, because the taper draws the eye along the finger and makes it read longer. The point is set under a V-prong as standard on all 163 of our pear designs, which is what protects it in daily wear.
What is the difference between IGI and GIA certification?
They are two independent gemological laboratories, both grading against the same 4Cs vocabulary and both issuing a report that travels with the stone; the GIA originated that scale. Beyond Carat grades with IGI, the report ships in the box, and the report number is laser-inscribed on the girdle so the paperwork always matches the diamond. How do I get the most visible piece for a fixed budget?
Choose shape before you choose carat. Round costs the most per carat, so moving to an oval, marquise or emerald cut buys visible extra size at the same spend. After that, a halo adds roughly half a carat of apparent size for a fraction of the cost of a larger centre stone.
Do all diamond shapes come in every metal?
